ABOUT MEMBERSHIP
Founded in 1994, the Spitalfields Society has, over the years, campaigned on behalf of the residents for a variety of issues which have affected our community. We have also endeavoured to make our community a more pleasant place to live by supporting initiatives and investments in Spitalfields.
At the 2015 AGM, (then) Chairman Nicholas Morse highlighted the year’s main involvement:
Anti Social Behaviour: a huge amount of engagement locally, including:
- The monthly meetings held by Jason Zeeloof of the Old Truman Brewery.
- The police
- Other local amenity groups, including SPIRE, concerned with reducing Anti-Social Behaviour, involved with which are two of the Society’s Committee members
- The number of public toilets in the area
- Written objections made on behalf of Residents to licensing applications including: 114a Brick Lane, Public Life (again), 24-28 Fournier Street, The Sweet Point Old Montague St, Geronimo Inns, Preem Fried Chicken, Preem at 118 brick Lane, 22 Osborne Street: and personal attendance at licensing hearings
Planned local developments including 86 Brick Lane (a Whitbread-owned Hotel), The Elder Street Area, The Bishopsgate Goodsyard, the Ex-Shoreditch Station, The Pedestrianisation of Brick Lane,
